Time to wait: The Detective Is Already Dead moves its premiere to October

Patience is the keyword of today. The original plans looked perfect for this summer, but things have just taken a turn in the schedule. This Sunday, the production committee of The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mo, Shindeiru) dropped a bucket of cold water mixed with excellent news. On one hand, they released the first promotional trailer and visual for its second season; on the other, they confirmed that the release will no longer be in July, moving its official premiere date to October 2026. And as if that weren’t enough, the franchise announced its jump to consoles with a video game for Nintendo Switch in development.

The voices behind the mystery and the mysterious Noches

If you watched the new promotional video, you surely were stunned in the last seconds. The clip introduces Noches, a completely new character wearing a maid outfit and is the spitting image of the detective we thought was dead. The ENGI studio brings back almost its entire main cast, adding this dual role that will blow our minds. Check who’s in charge of the microphones:

  • Saki Miyashita as Siesta / Noches.

Mii in BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense and Kisaragi in Kantai Collection.

  • Ayana Taketatsu as Nagisa Natsunagi.

Nino Nakano in The Quintessential Quintuplets and Azusa Nakano in K-ON!.

  • Kanon Takao as Yui Saikawa.

Iris in Konosuba and Rit in Banished from the Hero’s Party.

  • Arata Nagai as Kimihiko Kimizuka and Saho Shirasu as Charlotte Arisaka Anderson.

The duo that resumes their main roles to continue solving the impossible crimes left by the legendary detective.

From printed success directly to console controls

The entire universe that Nigoju (writer) and Umibozu (illustrator) built in their light novel continues to grow. Since 2019, the story has broken sales records, achieving a first season in 2021 and a manga that just concluded in 2023. Now, the bet is leveling up. The development of the game for Nintendo’s console is in the hands of Taito Games, though they’re still keeping quiet about what genre it will be or what exactly it will be about. What is certain is that director Manabu Kurihara is back at the helm of animation, supported by Deko Akao’s scripts and Yosuke Ito’s designs.

What exactly is this story of detectives and shootings about?

Imagine you’re a magnet for trouble. That’s Kimihiko Kimizuka, an average high school student who, after an aerial kidnapping, ends up becoming the assistant to a brilliant and enigmatic detective named Siesta. Together they travel the world dismantling secret organizations and fighting monsters in missions full of mystery and action. The problem begins when Siesta dies tragically. Devastated, Kimihiko tries to return to a normal life, but the past refuses to let him go. With the help of new friends, he must continue solving crimes while honoring his mentor’s legacy. Now, with the appearance of Noches (who looks identical to her), the board is turned upside down again.

Considering that Noches is physically identical and shares the same voice as the original detective, do you think she’s a clone created by the villains or does she hide something much more supernatural in her origin?
