Just after processing the end of the first season last month, the production committee revealed the next spell. During the busy activities of Anime Expo, the Witch Hat Atelier franchise (known in Japan as Tongari Boushi no Atelier) screened a promotional video to officially confirm that its second season is already in full production. This early announcement ensures that Coco’s long journey to become a full-fledged witch is just beginning on screen.

Although the preview was brief and conceptual, it reminded viewers of the high technical standard the series maintained during its recent spring broadcast. While the committee didn’t detail major changes to the production team, the industry assumes that BUG FILMS will continue hosting the project. This means Ayumu Watanabe would remain in the director’s chair, supported by Hiroshi Seko’s solid script supervision. Aesthetically and sonically, the impeccable character designs by Kairi Unabara and the spectacular musical compositions by Yuka Kitamura set an extremely high bar that this continuation must match or surpass.

A multi-awarded masterpiece worldwide

The massive financial backing this animated adaptation receives is directly tied to the immense prestige of its source material. The manga by Kamome Shirahama, published in Kodansha’s Morning two magazine since 2016, is a true machine for collecting international awards. With over 7 million copies in circulation, the work not only topped prestigious Japanese rankings like the Manga Taisho but also conquered the Western market, winning Best Manga at the Harvey Awards in 2020 and 2025.
