Yanineko anime to pause for a special program
Episode 9 of Yanineko will air on September 3 after a scheduling adjustment.
Fans following the absurd adventures of the chain-smoking cat will need patience. The production committee of the animated adaptation of Yanineko (Chainsmoker Cat) unexpectedly announced that the scheduled August 27 broadcast will not feature a regular episode, but will instead be replaced by a special program hosted by the voice cast.
The news came moments after the eighth episode aired on August 20. While no specific reason was given for this change, it was confirmed that the ninth episode will formally air on September 3. Details about the special program’s content, featuring the seiyuus, will be revealed later, so viewers will have to wait before the main plot continues.

Based on the original manga by Nyannyan Factory, published in Kodansha’s Young Magazine, this story takes place in a world where humans and beast people coexist daily. The plot follows Yani, a lazy, neglectful, and heavy-smoking cat girl with a chaotic lifestyle in an apartment building full of equally bizarre neighbors. The series began airing in early July 2026, animated by Bibury Animation Studios, directed by Taku Kimura, with scripts by Takashi Aoshima and character designs by Riki Matsuura.
With this brief schedule change, are you enjoying Yani’s irreverent humor and neighbors, or would you prefer uninterrupted episodes?
