Japanese pesticide and hygiene product maker Earth Corporation has recently unveiled Gokigen Lovely Days, a complimentary browser-based otome visual novel commemorating Insect Repellent Awareness Day on June 3 (June 4 in Japan). Presented in a first-person perspective, the game invites players to romance four seemingly ordinary attractive men who happen to conceal a secret insect-like nature. Notably, all four characters are voiced by Yuki Kaji, the acclaimed voice actor behind Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan and Shoto Todoroki in My Hero Academia.
As the heroine wanders through a solitary night, she crosses paths with Kuro, the “prince on a white horse,” Chaba, the adorable bespectacled younger brother type, Yamato, the refined Japanese gentleman, and Wamon, the dependable, beer-loving big brother type. For those unfamiliar with Japanese, the monikers of these four characters bear a striking resemblance to various species of cockroaches – kuro-gokiburi (smokybrown cockroach), chabane-gokiburi (German cockroach), yamato-gokiburi (Japanese cockroach), and wamon-gokiburi (American cockroach).
Regarding gameplay, the visual novel incorporates an “affinity” system. To achieve the optimal conclusion, players must keenly observe the characters’ actions, which happen to be modeled after the behaviors and ecology of insects. Depending on player choices, the branching narrative will unfold into multiple potential endings, revealing the romantic interests’ “true motives,” whatever those may entail.
This project serves as a promotional tool for Earth Pharmaceutical’s Gokisshu Su Sugoi! cockroach-repellent spray, and also includes useful advice on how to combat these pests.
Gokigen Lovely Days is accessible for free via browser, supporting both PC and Mobile devices. The game is exclusively in Japanese and can be played through the official website until September 3, 2026.
