Konami Group, the studio behind Metal Gear and Silent Hill, has recently released its Integrated Report covering the fiscal year ending March 2026. The document covers a wide array of topics, including Konami’s corporate values, historical milestones, a consolidated financial overview, and business strategies across its various entertainment ventures.

According to Dengeki Online, within the Digital Entertainment Business segment of the report, Hideki Hayakawa, president of Konami Digital Entertainment, addressed the swift advancements in generative AI and its potential effects on the gaming industry.

Although many believe generative AI will make game development more accessible to newcomers, thereby lowering the entry barrier, Hayakawa contends that this won’t drastically alter the market landscape. He notes that “entry barriers have already been reduced by the evolution of standard game engines and the proliferation of UGC (user generated content),” as he explains.

“Even if AI enhances production efficiency, the key elements in crafting engaging and innovative video games remain the people and creators behind them,” Hayakawa asserts.

Games are typically crafted by diverse teams where creators from various backgrounds collaborate and exchange ideas. Hayakawa points out that this fusion of concepts is what unlocks new gameplay possibilities. “That kind of synergy is something that cannot be easily replicated,” he elaborates.

Conversely, Hayakawa acknowledges that technological progress, which has long shaped game development, presents a significant opportunity for fresh experiences. “When it comes to groundbreaking technological innovations, Konami offers structured support to help creators understand new technologies, evaluate associated risks, and integrate them safely into game development,” he adds.
