The sweetest jirai-kei manga arrives later than planned. The anime of Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san? announced on June 25 its delay to January 2027, adding new voices to the cast, several production team members, and a musical project dedicated to the protagonist that starts before the anime hits screens.

Before the anime premieres, the franchise will launch a musical project focused on Mai Chihara. The protagonist’s first digital single is called “Alien Alien”, a cover of the signature song by Vocaloid producer and musician Nayutalien, and it releases on July 25, 2026. In the story, Chihara’s friend Chinatsu Iwakura acts as her general producer for musical activities. Chihara’s artist outfit was designed by Natsumi Sano. The announcement includes a teaser for the project.

Direction is handled by Yasuaki Fujii at studio Synergy SP, with Keiichiro Ochi supervising the scripts and Majiro in charge of character design. The music is composed by Arisa Okehazama at King Records, with sound direction by Daiki Hachimaki.

Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san?(Jirai nandesu ka? Chihara-san) is a manga by Ryon published on the GANMA! service since June 2021. The series won the “Next Impact Comic” award at the second Rakuten Kobo E-book Awards in 2024. The story follows Kuroki, a high school student who ends up sitting next to Mai Chihara at the start of a new semester. Chihara is known among her peers as a jirai-kei girl due to her gothic fashion, raven-black hair, and intense gaze—traits associated with a hyperfeminine and dark aesthetic that often comes with a reputation for an unstable personality. When Kuroki accidentally catches her attention, he discovers she is nothing like the rumors suggest: behind that intimidating appearance lies a surprisingly sweet, though somewhat peculiar, girl.
