The spring season already has its main contender for dominating the time travel theme. The production committee behind the animated adaptation of Fate Rewinder (known in Japan as Unmei no Makimodo Shi) released its first promotional video, marking April 2027 on the calendar for its official debut on Japanese television. To ensure global reach from day one, the streaming platform Crunchyroll immediately confirmed it will handle the simultaneous distribution of this unique series about time police.

Looking at the names involved in production, it’s clear this project has impressive financial and creative backing. Talented Rie Matsumoto takes the helm of directing at Bones Film, guaranteeing visually explosive sequences and a frenetic narrative pace. Kimiko Ueno handles the scripts, while Satoshi Murai will orchestrate the original soundtrack. This technical effort is being coordinated under the supervision of Story Inc., a producer that rarely fails when choosing which franchises to boost.

From Coro Coro pages to television

The story’s premise puts us in the shoes of Chrono, a boy whose right eye holds the power to rewind time. As a member of a highly specialized police unit, his job is to alter history to prevent tragic fates, completing unpredictable missions ranging from romantic entanglements to preventing large-scale terrorist attacks. This plot was born in January 2022 within the pages of the magazine Coro Coro Comics, written and illustrated by mangaka Fūta Kimura. Its success was so aggressive that it was nominated for the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2023, accumulating twelve compiled volumes to date and proving its universe has enough weight to make the definitive leap to anime.
