Dissolution of My Self, a dark boys love (BL) visual novel crafted by Pop Elephant Studio, has launched for Windows (Steam) starting September 4. To celebrate its arrival, the title is being offered at a 10% discount for the upcoming two weeks. Dissolution of My Self features Japanese voice acting, with text options in English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.
The narrative centers on Hector, a prince from a toppled kingdom who flees into exile alongside his uncle and aide-de-camp Matvey. Compelled to reside in a rented space until circumstances improve, Hector chooses to confront his memories and attempt to forget his past.
Players engage with objects throughout Hector’s room to trigger memories he struggles to face. Once experienced, these memories vanish permanently, and the related objects gradually fade and lose functionality. The sequence in which objects are interacted with influences the story’s pacing and presentation but does not alter the conclusion.

Matvey plays a significant role in Hector’s recollections. Beyond being his blood uncle and advisor, Hector views Matvey as a composite of mother, wife, caretaker, and subject. As players explore Hector’s memories, the complex and warped nature of their relationship becomes evident. While the developers advise against playing publicly, the game is not an eroge. However, it contains sensitive themes such as violence, self-harm, and psychological manipulation.

Dissolution of My Self explores introspection and the concept of “dissolving” oneself. Alongside its BL elements, the game incorporates dark humor and what the developers term “jokes from hell.” For those interested in playing, the creators kindly request that story discussions include spoiler warnings. Additionally, full playthrough uploads are discouraged until September 17, approximately two weeks after release.
Dissolution of My Self is available for Windows (Steam). A free demo can be found on Steam and itch.io.
