Too controversial? Usada Pekora reacts to the first episodes of Mushoku Tensei
The Hololive VTuber kicked off a weekly anime marathon and tore into Rudeus’s family.
While some content creators prefer to drop Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation in the second episode due to the initial antics of Rudeus, the perspective in Japan is very different. The famous Hololive VTuber, Usada Pekora, decided to give the series a chance starting from the first episode in a live stream that surpassed 20,000 simultaneous viewers, proving that the real controversy of the series was elsewhere.
The streamer’s broadcast happened just a week after American Ludwig Ahgren dropped the series in episode 2, arguing that the protagonist’s perverted attitude as a baby was unbearable. However, Pekora easily overcame that initial hurdle. The Hololive girl spent her time laughing at Rudeus’s expressions and showing great interest in Roxy, Sylphiette, and Eris. In fact, about the misunderstanding where Rudeus undressed Sylphiette without knowing her gender, the VTuber commented that although it was wrong, it wasn’t entirely the child’s intention due to his ignorance.
The real breaking point occurred during episode 4. When the plot reveals that Paul Greyrat got the maid Lilia pregnant at the same time his wife Zenith was expecting, Pekora fell silent before exploding in anger. Viewers reported that the VTuber was genuinely furious with Paul and Lilia, putting them at the bottom of her respect scale and harshly criticizing Zenith for tolerating such a situation under the same roof. Despite the tantrum and indignation, the streamer didn’t close the video and completed the first six episodes, confirming she will continue watching the story weekly.

This marathon comes right after the conclusion of the first part of the third season produced by Studio Bind. As the franchise prepares for the second part scheduled for 2027, Pekora’s reaction reignited the debate on how Japanese and Western audiences perceive moral dilemmas and family relationships within the isekai genre.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is a series of light novels written by Rifujin na Magonote and illustrated by Shirotaka. The work is considered by many as the pioneer of modern isekai. The story follows an unemployed 34-year-old who, after dying in a hit-and-run, reincarnates in a world of swords and sorcery as Rudeus Greyrat, retaining all memories of his past life and determined not to repeat his mistakes to live his youth to the fullest.
