During the Gundam Conference SPRING 2026 held on May 15, executives announced a bombshell for the otaku fanbase of mechas: the production of a new animated film titled Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO, which will serve as a direct prequel to the record-breaking film from last year.

This new installment is built on a scenario written during the initial planning stages by director Shigeru Morita and the late legendary series composer Chiaki Morosawa.
