Koei Tecmo has rolled out a player feedback survey for its forthcoming alchemy RPG Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories. The survey commenced today and will conclude on August 23, offering more than just a standard gaming questionnaire.
As development on Atelier Karia progresses, the team at Gust is keen to gather player perspectives on a unique system where the protagonist’s physique alters “based on her dietary choices.” This concept involves Karia transforming into an alternate, slightly fuller version with a noticeably rounded stomach when she consumes food, an appearance she can toggle between depending on her eating habits. The developers have included a visual comparison showcasing Karia’s regular form alongside this potential “plumper” variant, though they emphasize it’s purely for illustrative purposes.
It’s worth noting that consumption serves as a fundamental gameplay element in Atelier Karia. The heroine possesses an extraordinary ability to eat nearly anything, with her diet directly influencing her abilities and even triggering physical transformations (unlocking over 100 distinct forms tied to different foods). Consequently, experimenting with various edibles to advance through exploration and battles is integral to the experience. Given this design, the inclusion of a fuller Karia alongside her standard figure isn’t entirely unexpected. (Aside from this, this wouldn’t mark Gust’s first venture into similar gameplay mechanics).
The survey also presents Karia in eight alternative outfits, inviting fans to vote for their preferred designs. These costumes span a variety of styles, including a visual kei ensemble, gothic lolita attire, and even a kigurumi costume.
Gust is reportedly planning supplementary content in the form of short stories connected to the game. The survey prompts participants to select their favorite themes from several everyday scenarios or propose original concepts. There’s also an opportunity to pose questions to the development team regarding the game’s vision and production.
Koei Tecmo has indicated that player responses to the Atelier Karia survey will directly influence the game’s development and may shape future marketing and social media strategies. The submission period remains open until August 23.
Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories is slated for an Early 2027 launch on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
