Koei Tecmo has rolled out a player survey for its forthcoming alchemy RPG Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories. Available starting today and set to conclude on August 23, this poll offers more than just standard game feedback.
As Atelier Karia takes shape in development, the team at Gust wants to gauge player reactions to a system where the protagonist’s physique alters “according to her eating and snacking habits.” This concept involves Karia having an alternate, slightly plumper look with a stomach that appears full after meals, which she could toggle between based on her consumption. The creators have shared a visual comparison showing Karia’s regular appearance alongside the potential “plump” version, though they note it’s purely for reference purposes.
It’s worth noting that eating serves as a fundamental gameplay element in Atelier Karia, as the main character can consume nearly everything. Her dietary choices influence her abilities and even modify her appearance (unlocking over 100 distinct forms tied to food). Consequently, trying different foods to advance through exploration and battles is integral to the experience. With this in mind, the inclusion of a fuller Karia alongside her standard, slender version shouldn’t seem too unexpected. (Additionally, this wouldn’t be Gust’s first time implementing a similar gimmick).
A separate portion of the survey outfits Karia in eight alternative costumes, prompting fans to select their preferred designs. These outfits span various styles, from a visual kei ensemble to gothic lolita attire, and even a kigurumi outfit.
Gust also seems to be planning supplementary content in the form of short stories complementing the game. The survey asks players to pick their preferred topics from several everyday scenarios, or contribute their own ideas. There’s also space to pose questions to the team about the game’s development and vision.
According to Koei Tecmo, the responses to the Atelier Karia survey will guide the developers’ choices regarding the game and may appear in upcoming marketing and social media efforts. Participants have until August 23 to submit their feedback.
Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories is scheduled for an Early 2027 launch on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
