If you’ve ever followed Tsugumi Ohba’s Death Note and believed you could outsmart the detectives, then Demons’ Timeline offers a similar experience, albeit with a supernatural twist. As the cyber detective known as L (yes, inspired by Death Note), you navigate the internet through point-and-click interactions to unravel demon-related incidents, dubbed “Paradoxes,” alongside your demon partner Nyasuteria Hakouchi and two AIs. Created by Japanese indie studio DigitalCats, Demons’ Timeline launched on Steam on April 30.

Different from typical demonic beings, the term “demon” in Demons’ Timeline describes humans endowed with supernatural abilities. Instead of traditional crime scene investigations, L and his team gather clues by examining witness statements, news updates, and social media posts on the fictional platform Parotter.

By piecing together the gathered data, you uncover details such as a person’s age, gender, profession, and their online personas across personal and alternate accounts. Even deleted information can be restored using recovery codes, which may unlock Secret Boxes containing critical evidence. Once sufficient evidence is collected, you can finalize your deductions by matching hashtags from the Parotter timeline.

Each chapter in Demons’ Timeline presents one or two timelines, encouraging replayability. While cases have definitive solutions, there are no time constraints or game overs to add pressure. If you find yourself stuck or overwhelmed by the extensive text, a hint system is available to help you progress. With seven chapters, each lasting 1-2 hours, Demons’ Timeline challenges investigative minds while remaining accessible to players seeking a narrative-driven experience.

Demons’ Timeline is currently available for Windows (Steam) at 15% off. The first chapter is playable for free via the Steam demo, with save data transferring to the full game.
