Lemorion’s Meccha Chameleon has proven to be a remarkable success in the indie gaming world. Despite its straightforward design and development under limited resources and a tight timeframe, or perhaps due to these very qualities, this solo-developed party game has managed to surpass 15 million copies sold in just one month. It has secured a spot among the year’s top-selling titles, with some even suggesting it might be the year’s best-selling game.

The game’s popularity has sparked a viral trend, with many fans creating and concealing miniature chameleon figures in public spaces.

Meccha Chameleon’s influence has now extended to Google. As suggested by developer Lemorion, entering “Meccha Chameleon” into the Google search bar may yield unexpected outcomes.

Similar to the “do a barrel roll” or “askew” searches, looking up the game in either English or Japanese triggers a hidden easter egg. At first glance, the search results appear normal, but a closer inspection reveals the chameleon characters cleverly hidden throughout the page. This feature functions in both dark and light modes.

Notably, Meccha Chameleon has been delivering new content at an impressive pace since its release last month. A new Egypt-themed map was introduced just last week, following the addition of the unconventional Hikakin Museum map the day before. The developers attribute this rapid content rollout to their efficient asset reuse and a “make it exist first, perfect it later” philosophy.

Meccha Chameleon is available on Windows via Steam.
