Square Enix has revealed its financial outcomes for the initial quarter of the fiscal year concluding March 2027 (source: GameBiz). The company reported substantial growth across revenue and profit indicators, with operating profit surging by 88.6% compared to the previous year.
This impressive showing was largely propelled by Square Enix’s digital entertainment division, which experienced a 51.8% rise in revenue and a 91.8% increase in operating profit year-over-year. The company noted that all segments of its gaming business—HD games, MMOs, and mobile/PC titles—showed enhanced performance, with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales noted as consistent performers in the console market.
Furthermore, sales of Square Enix’s back catalog titles (games from prior fiscal years) also saw an uptick compared to the previous year, contributing to the overall revenue and operating profit.
In the MMO/mobile/browser segment, Final Fantasy XIV recorded higher revenue and player engagement, though profit margins only saw a modest increase due to costs associated with the game’s upcoming expansion. The live-service games Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest Smash/Grow were cited as significant contributors to both revenue and profitability.
