Takahiro Fujiwara, the unmistakable voice of Kurogiri in My Hero Academia, passes away

Ken Production agency confirmed the sad passing of the talented 43-year-old actor.

The Japanese animation industry has just suffered a regrettable loss. Ken Production agency confirmed via an official statement the sad passing of voice actor Takahiro Fujiwara, who lost his life on May 14 at the young age of 43. Although the news was revealed on May 21 out of respect for his loved ones’ privacy, fans quickly flooded social media with messages of gratitude for the man who brought one of the most iconic villains in My Hero Academia to life.

A Passionate and Homely Talent

According to the message shared by his representative agency, the family decided to hold a completely private funeral to bid him farewell in strictest privacy. Beyond his imposing vocal tone that often cast him in roles of tough men or fearsome antagonists, his colleagues described him as extremely kind, gentle, and calm. He was a true homebody and a dedicated video game fan, to the point where he often forgot to eat or sleep while immersed in his gaming sessions, a trait that made him very beloved among his closest colleagues.

The Unmistakable Legacy of Kurogiri

The impact he leaves on the industry is truly deep. His most globally recognized role was that of the enigmatic Kurogiri since the first season of My Hero Academia, whose official account has already published a heartfelt message of condolences thanking him for his impeccable work over the years. In addition to this key role, Fujiwara lent his voice to characters of great weight, including the giant Dorry in One Piece, Eikichi Nebuya in Kuroko’s Basketball, and Kan Jou in the historic drama of Kingdom. Each of these performances demonstrated the versatility of an actor who knew how to bring a unique strength to any script.

Saying goodbye to a talent at such a young age always leaves a great void among anime fans, especially when his voice accompanied us through so many unforgettable seasons. Knowing the tremendous presence he brought to every scene, which character played by Takahiro Fujiwara left the biggest impact on your memory as a viewer?
