The legendary killer doesn’t retire: The Fable confirms its second season
The adaptation of the intense Yamaoka arc will bring back Fable’s action and comedy
Living as a normal person is the most difficult contract Japan’s most lethal hitman has had to sign. The anime production committee The Fable dropped the bomb this Thursday: a second season is now a reality and officially in production. Following the conclusion of its first 25-episode installment aired in spring 2024, the series prepares to take the next big leap by adapting the acclaimed Yamaoka arc from the original manga.

To fans’ relief, most of the technical team that captured the raw and comedic essence of the work will return to their positions. Veteran Ryousuke Takahashi will return to the director’s chair at the same animation studio that worked on the first part, ensuring the visual transition is seamless. Although we still don’t have an exact premiere date or an official promotional image has been revealed, the announcement confirms that the story will resume immediately after the first season’s finale, delving into the protagonist’s past while trying not to kill anyone in the process.

About The Fable
If you missed the first phenomenon, the story created by Katsuhisa Minami (published between 2014 and 2019) introduces us to an infallible hitman whose only order is to disappear off the map for a full year. If he kills someone during that time, his own organization will eliminate him. What follows is an absurd mix of everyday situations where a man accustomed to death tries to understand how a supermarket works, how to make friends, and how to enjoy a boring life, all while the criminal underworld refuses to leave him in peace.
The Yamaoka arc is one of the most tense points in the narrative, as it tests all the rules the protagonist has tried to follow and unearths dangerous secrets from his training. With the success of the first season still fresh, the first official trailer is expected in the coming months to give us a concrete date for the return of this peculiar “neighbor.”
Do you think the protagonist can overcome the Yamaoka arc without breaking his strict rule of not killing anyone?
