Japanese VTuber Komai Ume accidentally reveals her real face live

Komai Ume offered public apologies after accidentally showing her real face during a live stream.

A nightmare for any virtual content creator occurred during a recent live stream. Popular independent talent from Varium agency, Komai Ume, suffered a technical glitch in her camera software that exposed her real face to viewers for a portion of the broadcast.

The oversight happened due to a misconfiguration in the video signal capture setup, allowing the direct camera feed to appear on screen. After taking an unscheduled day off to process what happened, the streamer issued an official apology to her followers for not thoroughly checking her equipment before going live. In her message, Ume promised stricter technical checks before each stream to prevent such incidents, thanking fans for their concern.

A solid track record at Varium agency

Since debuting in October 2022 as part of Varium’s first generation, Komai Ume has won audience hearts with her cute avatar inspired by a komainu (shrine guardian dog). Over nearly four years, she’s achieved milestones on the platform, releasing multiple alternate outfits, hairstyles, and obtaining her own 3D model for gaming streams, karaoke, and casual chats. Fortunately, her agency confirmed she’ll continue her regular activities without schedule interruptions.

With privacy being key in VTuber culture, what do you think of the public’s understanding and respectful reaction to this technical mishap?
