Snowball Earth announces production of its second season
Tetsuo awoke in a frozen world and the story isn’t over: the second season is now confirmed.
Tetsuo survived Earth’s destruction, eight years of cryogenic sleep, and a completely frozen planet. What he couldn’t survive was the end of the first season without a second. Snowball Earth confirmed its continuation on June 26, 2026, the same day the 13th and final episode of the first season aired, accompanied by a teaser hinting at what’s to come.
The first season of 13 episodes was produced at Studio KAI under the direction of Munehisa Sakai, with TOHO animation handling production. The established story follows Tetsuo Yabusame, the pilot of the giant robot Yukio, who in 2025 fought alongside Earth’s Defense Force in the final battle against a massive alien invasion. They lost. Yukio was destroyed, Tetsuo escaped in a capsule, and eight years later awoke in an unrecognizable Earth: completely covered in ice and snow. A Snowball Earth. The story explores what happened to humanity, how the planet reached this state, and if Tetsuo can fulfill the last promise he made to destroyed Yukio.
No details on release date, potential crew changes, or cast for the second season have been announced yet. More information is expected in the coming months.
About Snowball Earth
Snowball Earth is a manga by Yuhiro Tsujitsugu that blends the mecha genre with post-apocalyptic sci-fi narrative in a setting where humanity’s loss in an intergalactic war is the starting point, not the climax. The premise of a pilot waking up eight years later in an unrecognizable world carries emotional weight that the series uses as a mystery engine: what really happened during those years? Is anyone else left? What does the promise Tetsuo made to his destroyed robot mean? The second season will have to answer these questions.
Did the first season of Snowball Earth leave you with more questions than answers, or do you feel the story established its world well before closing?
The manga Stardust Telepath will conclude in its seventh volume
