Dreaming of leaving war to become a musician while your musical skill becomes a weapon is the kind of contradiction that defines The Bugle Call: Song of War. The war fantasy manga confirmed its anime adaptation with a scheduled release in 2027, produced by CA Soa, the CyberAgent studio, accompanied by a teaser and promotional image.

The story takes place in the year 1294 Arboral, an era dominated by nine massive towers known as the Spires, remnants of an advanced civilization that hold lost secrets and powerful knowledge which nations fiercely compete to control. The protagonist, Luca, works as a bugler in a mercenary company and dreams of leaving the battlefield to become a true musician. The problem is that Luca is marked as one of the enigmatic Branch-hexed, gifted with the unusual ability to see the sound of his own instrument, which draws him into an epic war he didn’t choose.

After being presumed dead following a battle, Luca is rescued by a mysterious Pontiff, who reveals that he is not the only one with unusual powers. The Pontiff has gathered a special team of Branch-hexed to help defeat rival empires, forcing Luca to accept that his abilities, instead of offering an escape from war, now position him as a “muse of massacre.”

Does the concept of musical power turned into a war weapon seem like an original premise within the war fantasy genre, or do you need to see more of the trailer before deciding?
