What was an open secret among Weekly Shonen Jump readers finally became reality. During the Jump Press special broadcast, it was confirmed that the manga Nue’s Exorcist (Nue no Onmyoji) will get its own anime adaptation, set to premiere during the summer of 2027.

The announcement came with its first trailer and promotional image, revealing the series’ tone and the cast for the main characters. Actor Kaito Miura will play the suffering protagonist Gakuro Yajima, while popular voice actress Saori Onishi will voice the quirky otaku entity known as Nue. Actress Sayumi Suzushiro completes the main trio as Kazusa Suo.
Studio Hibari is producing the anime under the direction of Hiroyuki Hashimoto. Script supervision and writing are handled by Hiroshi Seko, while Shunpei Mochizuki adapts the character designs. Takayuki Yamaguchi directs sound, with music composition by MONACA.
The story follows Gakuro Yajima, a boy who has been able to see spirits since childhood—beings drawn to people’s sadness and anger. Tired of getting into trouble, Gakuro’s only goal has been to ignore these entities and live a quiet, unnoticed life. However, things change when he accidentally enters a sealed room and releases Nue, a peculiar pop-culture-loving spirit that forces him to become an exorcist to protect his school.
