Some card shop management games delve into the less glamorous side of the business. While a game like TCG Card Shop Simulator has you using deodorant to handle smelly customers, the upcoming You’re a Scalper, Aren’t You? tasks you with interrogating suspicious patrons to determine if they’re scalpers, plus wrestling with the ethical choice of whether to conduct business with them.

As the proprietor of a card shop, your aims are to hit top sales numbers and earn customer loyalty. Although these two goals seem aligned, how you pursue them will significantly shape your shop’s earnings and standing.

Your journey starts with gathering intel. Through the in-game WowTube platform, you track card price shifts, learn about scalper activities, and even get the inside scoop on rival shops. Talking to customers is another avenue to discover which items might fly off the shelves soon.

Once you’ve scoped out the scene, you can buy booster packs and cards from specific wholesalers during your off days. Not all sellers will have what you need, though, and sometimes your go-to supplier will be out of stock. In such cases, you can seek out another vendor and forge a new business tie. Some wholesalers might hesitate to partner with a shop that lacks a solid reputation, but building up your business can unlock more chances.

With inventory secured, it’s time to open up shop. Business days involve stocking shelves and dealing with customers who come to buy or sometimes sell cards. While some are true TCG fans, others are covert scalpers aiming to clear your stock. You can grill suspected scalpers with queries like “Why do you want this card?” and “Why so many copies??” If their answers don’t add up or clash with your intel, you can call them out as scalpers.

Scalpers won’t back down easily—they’ll try to talk their way through your accusations. You’ll need to stay sharp, point out their lies, and push them to reveal their real intentions. Typically, this is where you’d toss the scalper out, but the game gives you another choice: accept them for who they are and keep trading. Some scalpers might be in it due to tough financial spots, while others are just out to profit at others’ expense and don’t deserve leniency.

Keep in mind that how you handle business and scalpers heavily influences the story. For example, dealing with a known scalper might boost profits but could also harm your store’s image. With multiple possible endings, You’re a Scalper, Aren’t You? highlights that running a card shop (or any business) isn’t purely black or white—sometimes, compromises are necessary.

Developed by solo Japanese creator Miyabi, You’re a Scalper, Aren’t You? is currently being made for Windows (Steam).
