Some card shop management games don’t shy away from the less glamorous side of the business. While a game like TCG Card Shop Simulator has you using deodorant to handle smelly customers, the upcoming You’re a Scalper, Aren’t You? tasks you with interrogating suspicious shoppers to determine if they’re scalpers, plus wrestling with the ethical choice of whether to deal with them.

As the proprietor of a card shop, your aims are to hit top sales numbers and win over customers. Although these goals seem complementary, your methods for boosting revenue and building relationships will heavily sway your shop’s earnings and standing.

The game kicks off with gathering intel. Through the in-game video platform WowTube, you track recent card price shifts, learn about scalper incidents, and even spy on rival card shops. Chatting with customers is another avenue to discover which items might fly off the shelves soon.

Once you’ve got a handle on the market, you can buy booster packs and cards from select wholesalers on your days off. Not every supplier carries everything you need, though, and sometimes your go-to vendor won’t have enough stock. In such cases, you can seek out another seller and forge a new business tie. Some wholesalers may be hesitant to work with a shop that lacks reputation or has a bad one, but nurturing your business can unlock more chances.

With your inventory stocked, it’s time to open up shop. Business days involve restocking shelves and dealing with customers who drop by to buy or occasionally sell you cards. Some are true TCG fans, while others are covert scalpers looking to snap up your stock.

You can grill suspected scalpers with queries like “Why do you want this card?” and “Why so many??” If their answers don’t add up or clash with your intel, you can call them out as scalpers.

A scalper won’t surrender easily—they’ll try to talk their way out of your accusations. You’ll need to stay sharp, spotting the contradictions in their stories before they reveal their real intentions.

Typically, this is where you’d toss the scalper out, but the game gives you another route—you can accept them for who they are and keep trading. Some scalpers might be in it out of desperation due to money troubles. Others are just out to make a quick buck off others and don’t deserve your sympathy.

Keep in mind that your choices on how you handle business and scalpers heavily influence the story. For example, dealing with a notorious scalper might boost your profits but could also tarnish your store’s rep. With multiple possible endings, You’re a Scalper, Aren’t You? demonstrates that running a card business (or any business) isn’t purely black and white, and compromises often have to be made.

Brought to life by solo Japanese developer Miyabi, You’re a Scalper, Aren’t You? is currently in development for Windows (Steam).
