After a string of enigmatic lore hints and brief character introductions, Dynamis One and NC have partially unveiled the gameplay mechanics of Astrae Oratio. A trailer released on June 2 demonstrates the upcoming RPG’s combat system and 3D cinematic sequences.

Market as a “magic x bureaucracy” RPG, Astrae Oratio (formally abbreviated to “Asora”) takes place in Tokyo during 1889, which is the ninth year of the fictional Reisei Era. Although the visuals might appear out of place for the era, the game is set in a realm where magic flourishes, and technology, culture, and civilization have “progressed nearly a century beyond what we know today.”

Players assume the role of the Shunin, a junior public servant, who is assigned to a puzzling organization called the Special District Office. It is revealed to be an agency tasked with managing the administrative matters of magicians residing in Tokyo while keeping their true identities hidden, and the Shunin is solely responsible for addressing the city’s various magician-related occurrences.

Astrae Oratio’s latest trailer features the game’s narrative segments, where dialogue unfolds through player choices, along with combat sequences. The UI suggests a turn-based combat system (based on the AP count and command menu) as well as a combo mechanic. The bottom left corner shows a small icon of the active character, indicating that players will assemble parties of multiple members. The top left corner includes what appear to be “auto battle” and “speed up” options. The combat sequences are 3D with cinematic sequences for skill activations. It’s important to note, however, that all of the trailer’s in-game footage is labeled as “work-in-progress.”

Dynamis One, the studio developing Astrae Oratio, is led by Park Byung-Lim, a former co-director of Nexon’s Blue Archive, and isakusan, who also served as a scenario writer for the game.

Additional information about Astrae Oratio will be shared through the official website and X profile.
